It's called a flip folder. It's held onto the clarinet with a lyre (is that
the right spelling?) we were only allowed to use them during practice.
It's like, bad form or something to perform with them. Shows a lack of
professionalism, so I've been told. It is very difficult to make sure you
are in the right place on the field at the right time if your nose is buried
in the music. It's not like all you have to look at is the conductor over
the top of your stand. And sometimes it's kind of dark. Not very easy to
see the music that way.

Have a Nice Day!!
Wendy :)

I've never gone to Band Camp, (our school is too cheap), but we have marched
before, and I noticed that some people had those little things (I can't
remember what they're called) that hook up between two of the pieces and it
holds your music. I'm sure you've seen it (It's used in Jazz Band a lot),
and it may be a possible solution to the memorization problem. I have never
really had much trouble memorizing things; I can tell you in detail all
about the first book I ever read, in Kindergarten...so I can't give you
personal experience on how o deal with it, but the way I do it is play it
over and over again until I can play it with my eyes closed facing the other
direction, or five minutes afterward...If I can still play it the next day,
then I know I've memorized it...I hope that helps. If not, then you may want
to look into the music holder.
Bright Blessings,
