Sorry, Tony. I thought most of this background was discussed months ago.

This goes back to December or January, when I first noticed the problem. I
went to an orthopaedist who ran some tests (including the carpel tunnel,
which was negative.) He sent me to a neurosurgeon. He ordered a series of
flat films and an MRI. He thought he was seeing some nerve impingement due
to narrowing of the bone surrounding the cervical section of the cord. He
then ordered a CT scan and a myelogram. I was taken into surgery, and the
calcium was cleaned out, bone spurs were "punched off", etc. They felt that
this should have solved the problem. And it did -- for about three days.
Then it started to get worse. He has subsequently ordered another myelogram
and CT scan, and says everything is within normal limits. He then sent me
to another neurologist, who performed an EMG, which showed the deficit in
the ulnar nerve.

I have a hypothesis -- which may be worth the paper it's not printed on --
that when the nerve pressure in the neck was released, the sensation was
able to make it out of the neck and found a new block, between the elbow and
the fingers. The last neurologist said he didn't feel it should be operated
on, since it probably wouldn't help and might make it worse.

That's the point where I was sent for pain management. I'm scheduled to go
back to the neurosurgeon in a couple of weeks. I'll take the suggestions
about the therapists. We have Vanderbilt University in Nashville that has a
pretty good sports medicine. I'll certainly take it up with him, along with
any other suggestions anyone has.

Thanks, Jim
