Why don't you want to go to band camp, Rebecca? it's an essential part of
the system. There were a few people who didn't go to band camp with us and
when we got back they were so far behind that it took them the rest of the
season to catch up with us. The bonds between members are formed and
solidified while at band camp. Leaders are born and the weak are exposed
for the wusses they are. I wouldn't worry so much about memorization.
You'll play the tunes so many times you'll be able to do it in your sleep.
In fact, you might just do it in your sleep. I still have dreams about
marching band. Now, keep in mind that band was my life back in the day.
You may have other activities that your brain is concentrating on instead.
Practice, practice, practice! :)

Have a Nice Day!!
Wendy :)

Is there a technique you use for memorizing music, or do you just do it? I,
for some reason, just can't. I can memorize bits and pieces, but I never can
get the whole thing which is essential to marching band, which I can not
weasel my way out of this year! Band camp is paid for and I have to go!
AKKKKKKKKK!!!
I seriously thought I'd be able to graduate high school without going to
band camp (with the band, not the guard)!

Anyway, I find myself having to march in the band this year and I never got
the hang of it last year. Maybe because I can't march and maybe because I
didn't have the time to learn (I was placed in the show less than a week
before the first competition). I'm sure I will be forced to memorize the
music, so to my question...

What is the best way to go about memorizing the music?
