Hi, Klarinet List.

It's Done! I've hardly slept in days, but I just
finished the new clarinet sonata:

"Sonata No. 1 for (Bb) Clarinet and Piano"
(June 2003, 4 mvts., 26 min.)

1 Allegretto 5' 10"
II Chaconne: Adagio 6' 45"
"Undimmed by Human Tears!"
III Scherzo Slovenski - Swing Fugue
- Scherzo Slovenski 6' 20"
IV Triple Fugue: Allegretto 7' 45"
total playing time: 26' 00"

The Fourth Movement has 4 sections:
1) uses the first Clarinet melody from
the First Movement to make: a Fugue,
a Canon at the Octave and a Stretto
Fugue in Inversion; making the first
section about 1' 20".

2) uses the first Clarinet melody from
the Second Movement to make: a
Fugue, a Stretto Fugue in Original, a
Stretto Fugue in Retrograde, and a
Quadruple Directional Stretto Fugue
(meaning that it is in Original, Inver-
sion, Retrograde, and Retrograde-
Inversion overlapping each other). The
second section is about 1' 55".

3) uses the first Clarinet melody from the
Third Movement to make: a Fugue, a
Stretto Fugue in Original, a Canon at the
Octave in Retrograde-Inversion, and a
short review of the Middle Section of the
Third Movement, the Benny Goodman
Tribute. The third section is about 2' 00".

4) is the actual Triple Fugue based on the
simultaneously playing the Opening
Clarinet melodies from the First, Second
and Third Movements. Then there is a
Canon at the Octave for the First Fugue
Subject in Retrograde, followed by the
Triple Fugue in Retrograde (which may
be the first, and only Triple Fugue in
Retrograde in Non-12-Tone Harmony),
and that makes this section about 2' 30".
The Fourth Movement totals about 7' 45",
while the whole sonata is about 26' 00".

Although I am still an unknown composer,
this work will likely become very important in
the History of Counterpoint and Music.

The Piano C Score of the whole Sonata is
50 Pages long! The computer said it has over
12,700 Notes in it. Now I need to work on the
Bb Part Book, which will take a few days. I do
it in a more detailed method than most people,
including Page Layouts to make Page Turns
easy, as well as having Cue Notes, so the soloist
always knows where they are, while playing.

Professor Joze Kotar, of the Music Academy
in Ljubljana Slovenia is the Dedicatee, and will
perform this work in October 2003. AFTER
he has performed and/or recorded it, and given
me his permission, then I can let other clarinetists
see the scores.

I've been up all night, and it's almost 5:00 AM,
Monday, June 30, 2003. I become 49 years old
today. I need to get some sleep.
