From my years on the Opera-L list, it was no secret that several rather
well-known singers were "wired," were List members, and so it paid to be
reasonably polite when offering criticism of the living, at least because
you never knew whether the person you were denouncing as a 3rd rater wasn't
reading what you said. The membership roster was not open to scrutiny.

Tony Pay and Jonathan Cohler are members here. And I'm sure there are more
whose names we might recognize from those CD separator tags in the music
store section marked "Clarinet."

Common politeness goes a long way, along with offering critiques in the
spirit of "this is MY opinion and what I hear, it's not the Sermon on the
Mount."

Unfortunately, BTW, any number of people on Opera-L, at least, regarded
their opinions has having superceded said Sermon....
