But Jim Croce said "Because stone walls do a prison
Make iron bars a cage
Any man who says they don't
Never been inside
Cause in time the bars get closer
And at night the walls grow tighter
Do you feel like there's a shackle around your mind?

Have a Nice Day!!

Yes. And it's even true that the realisation you describe here may be
the best thing to say to someone 'worse off' -- what you want to call,
'handicapped' -- because if they take it on board, it empowers them.

How that works, you'll agree, is that they see that it's the *context*
in which they hold it that determines the actual effect on them of
whatever's being described as a handicap. So the realisation is that
it's not that some things are handicaps, others inconveniences. They're
all just 'what is' -- which unfixes the absolute meaning of the words,
as per Joe's post. Then, the truth about Joe's post can be used for
your purposes, because as you point out, context is not only physical,
but can be created by an individual. "Stone walls do not a prison make,
nor iron bars a cage."

So it seems to me that it just comes down to the idea that what you want
to say depends on who you're saying it to. Christy wants to talk to the
teachers, you want to talk to the disempowered students. Trouble is,
it's difficult to see that in this medium.

But, if I'm not mistaken, you're agreed on this now, no?-)
