Stephanie,

Just a hunch, but it may be that your Pyne mouthpiece
has an asymmetrical facing as part of its design. One
not too uncommon trait of mouthpieces with this
"crooked" facing is getting a good reed to match up
with it. I recall reading that many of Pyne's
mouthpieces have the asymmetrical facings. As a side
note, some of Clark Fobes' mpc's are asymmetrical as
well. While it may seem that asymmetrical is "bad",
many good players play on these "skewed" facings. The
sound results must be worth the effort in time spent
on reed finishing, I suspect.

My suggestion is to log in some time on reed
finishing/selection to get the Pyne to work for you if
you truly love the sound out of it more than any other
mpc. Or if the Fobes works for you, you could save
time in reedwork and just stick with the Fobes.
