After centuries of development the clarinet needs both
hands and only produces one note at a time. Is it going to survive?

Left and right brain specialisation has
been identified by observing the loss
of functions of patients with brain damage.
Music appears on both sides.
I have been told that poor rhythmic acuity is due
to the left and right hemispheres not communicating
well. This is not new stuff (1970s).

Left Brain Abilities
speech, reading, writing, verbal memory, abstract thought,
musical ability, fine manual sequences,
seeing more than one thing at a time,
left-right discrimination, detail in drawing.
Lower section of clarinet and support

Right Brain Abilities
understanding metaphors, facial recognition,
attending to left body and left space, spatial perception,
ability to find way (navigate), musical sense,
form memory, form in drawing.
Upper section of the clarinet

The functions of left-handed and right-handed brains
are differently distributed in other ways than just handedness.
