Patricia, I believe it is true that generally speaking, the dominant hand
is the stronger one. Since most people are right-handed, this could explain
why the weight of the clarinet is supported by the right hand. I had a
little 3rd grader here today starting to play and the poor kid had a
terrible time holding her clarinet in the proper position. I recommended
her Mom get her a neckstrap. Christy
