Next Tuesday, I'll shut off the KLARINET list while I am on the road
because one is never certain if an internet connection is going to be
problematic. So to avoid the possibility of having a mailbox full of
messages that I can't get at, I generally shut off everything but
personal mail while on the road.

Here is my schedule for anyone who wants to have an experience playing
basset horn. You must bring your own mouthpiece and reed which should
be a light one, maybe 2 to 2-1/2 at the most. A 3 reed can cause a
burst blood vessel on a basset horn. Please don't plan to hang around
too long because I will want to rest after driving all day. It is not
that I'm trying to be difficult, but I have to get from Washington, DC
to California by car on a certain date. Contact me privately if you are
interested and I'll tell you where I am staying.

Tuesday, July 1, depart for Bakersfield, CA

Wednesday, July 2, depart for Kingman, AZ

Thursday, July 3, depart for Gallup, NM

Friday, July 4, depart for Santa Fe, NM staying until July 10 but
working with Keith Bowen's chamber group to play the Gran Partitta.
Keith also has a Fox basset horn with gold keys and it is said to be as
good if not better than mine. So if you are in the Santa Fe area, we
will probably play the piece after lots of rehearsals sometime on July
8. We will also try to play the Adagio for 5 clarinets but no promises
on that one. I ask Keith to make a posting on this matter so that
interested parties can attend. I will remain in Santa Fe until the 10th.

Thursday, July 10, depart for Amarillo, TX

Friday, July 11, depart for Fort Smith, Arkansas (what is the
abbreviation, AR or AK?)

Saturday, July 12, depart for Pine Bluff, Arkansas

Sunday, July 13 (my 72nd birthday), depart for Nashville, TN

Monday, July 14, depart for Christianburg, VA

Tuesday, July 15, depart for Bethlehem, PA (where I lived right after I
got married and played E-flat clarinet with the Allentown band)

Wednesday, July 16, depart for Paterson, NJ (where I was born and where
my parents are buried - I'm going there to visit their graves and hope
that their souls approve of my behavior in trying to be a good person).

Saturday, July 19, depart for Washington, DC (where I will visit the
Library of Congress to see the manuscript of the Gran Partitta,
hopefully not for the last time, and do some museum visitations, while
my wife attends a big genealogic conference).

Thursday, July 24, depart for Washington, PA (some day I shall make a
trip and visit only towns named "Washington")

Friday, July 25, depart for Terre Haute, IN

Saturday, July 26, depart for Kansas City, MO (where they say the
bar-b-que is spectacular)

Sunday, July 27, depart for Kearney, NE

Monday, July 28, depart for Laramie, WY

Tuesday, July 29, depart for Salt Lake City, UT (it will be a l-o-n-g day)

Wednesday, July 30, depart for Winnemucca, NV (there might be a basset
horn convention going on in that city. Who knows? Why not? There was a
performance of the Requiem in Elko, NV last Sept. 11. No joke.)

Thursday, July 31, depart for Los Altos, CA (which is where I started
out on this trip)

I'll also go to Los Angeles on August 6 - 9 but this is business not
pleasure. The Society for 18th Century Studies is having its
international meeting (every 4 years), and I am presenting on the census
of Mozart manuscripts in the North America. I will deliver the talk in
perfect Mandarin, Cantonese, Polish, Russian, Serbo Croation, German,
French, Italian, Yiddish, and cockney English. Blimey, I'm nuttin' if
not versatile.

Ending up the Summer season with a performance of the Mozart Requiem in
San Francisco, with Mark Brandenburg playing the other basset horn, and
George Cleve conducting the Midsummer Mozart Festival Orchestra. Great
group. Very professional. Autographs will be $1.35 because I can't
afford to pay you any more than this.

Have a great summer everyone.
