Subj: [kl] survey stats
Date: Mon, 23 Jun 2003 23:27:35 -0400

So far, out of 72 responders, 45% are right-handed, 45% are mixed, 8 % =
are
left-handed and 2% ambidextrous. The responders include piano teachers =
and
k-8 music teachers,(many of whom play various instruments), and clarinet
players. (many of whom also play different instruments). I did pose the
question to another group of piano teachers I had not asked before now =
and I
did not give any info about my own handedness or why I was doing the =
survey.
Of course, I had several people ask what the purpose was but I tried to =
give
a very generalized description. Mixed handedness includes people who =
may be
right-handed but are left-eye dominant and do a few things with their =
left
hand, people who do only certain things with the left and certain things
with the right hand, etc... The lefties are purely left-handed in every
respect and the right-handers are right handed for everything. I did =
not
ask about eye dominance or foot dominance, but almost every one of the =
K-8
teachers and the piano teachers included this information. I think =
someone
started it and the rest followed up by adding that information. I was
surprised, since I never really realized that people have a dominant eye =
and
never thought about feet either until I started reading "The Lefthanded
Syndrome" by Stanley Coren. Results are still coming in. =20
