I too love mine. I bought it in 1994, though it was used. A friend of a
friend, who is actually a trumpet player, saw the instrument in a music
shop in Colorado and picked it up. The friend came up to me at school (I
was a senior in high school at the time) and said, "hey, you're looking
for a professional clarinet, right? Todd just bought one," which I found
odd, since he isn't a clarinet player.

I took a look and sure enough, he had a like-new condition Yamaha 72cx.
I play tested it and it sounded and felt wonderful. I brought it to my
then teacher, the late John Denman, who was a Yamaha concert artist and
had two sets of gold-plated Yamaha customs at the time. He inspected it
carefully, making sure there were no pins or cracks, and then did a play
test. He handed it back to me, and muttered "it sounds better than any of
mine; if you don't buy it, you're a fool" and I figured then that it was a
decent horn.

I have been playing on it ever since (except for outdoor concerts; I have
a wood Evette that my dad got at a swap meet for $40 that I use), and
wouldn't trade it for anything. It was completely overhauled last year by
Guy Chadash and plays wonderfully. I get a huge sound from it (much moreso
than the Evette), and treasure it dearly. However, in another couple of
years I'm going to need to have the keys replated because the silver has
worn off several of them.

I also have a 72cs A, which Mr. Denman picked out for me, and it's a fine
horn as well. It probably needs an overhaul, but I don't play it much, and
haven't wanted to put out the $$$ for the work...
