The Ab (modern pitch) is in fact the "Picksuesse Hoelzl" (in G high pitch)
of the Wiener Schrammeln (famous Viennese ensemble, late 19th c.); it is a
wonderfull instrument (picksuess means ultra sweet!, hoelzl is dim. of wood)
and is still made by some makers, esp. Schwenk und Seggelke
(www.schwenk-und-seggelke.de) (at 3480 Euro in 2001). Check it out.
Hans Joachim Hespos owned an Ab and used to provide clarinettists with it
who played in certain pieces of his (notably "gelb").

Ripamonti and Leblanc both make a sopranino clarinet. I've played the
Leblanc a couple of times at ICA events, but never in concert. You'll find
them in many Italian bands. I know of no published clarinet choir music
that utilizes the Ab. And, no, I wouldn't waste the money.
