Walter, you may also want to note what mouthpiece as well.

I am playing a Buffet R-13, Vandoren B45 mouthpiece. I've use Mitchell Lurie
2 1/2 fine, Rico Royal 2 1/2 are similar, seem a little stiffer. Vandoren 2
1/2s were way too inconsistent for me and tended to be too stiff as well.
Someone suggested I try V12s and I am currently using those at 2 1/2
strength, seem much more consistent, though a bit stiffer than the Mitchell
Lurie and Rico Royals.

I have only been playing clarinet for 4 months now, so take my preferences
so far with a grain of salt... :-P

and Gonzales reeds. Before that I was using Vandoren V 12's. I did have some
"regular" Vandorens that worked well for me when I couldn't get the V 12's
to play satisfactorily.

except for Mitchell Lurie, where I vacillated between 5's (too soft) and 5
1/2's (too stiff).
