Vibrato

>From David Dow

Interesting to note that the vibrato factor can intensify the sound .....I
think the danger which a decent teacher faces is the when to introduce
vibrato. I usually start talking about this with students in the
intermediate stages and deliver more input as they develop technically.

Vibrato on strings was not always popular as it is today. The older early
20th century recording certainly have examples of no vibrato in many
recordings. My Bruno Walter Das Lied von der Erde of Mahler from the mid
30s with Charles Kullman has not a tad of string vibrato in many sustained
passages....interesting how styles change over time. -- Original
