In jazz playing, we use vibrato as we feel----generally to make the long
notes "dance" at the end.
This is opposed to the Glenn Miller clarinet lead section vibrato, which is
a constant through long held notes, and is matched by the other 4 saxes.
As far as goes clarinet vibrato in concert music, nobody mentioned the late
Reginald Kell, who was one of my teachers. He used vibrato in his
performance practice---I might add, in an extremely tasteful manner.
