It is alleged that the original manuscript (which I have never seen) has
the triplets you speak of in both the first violin and the clarinet
parts. Apparently they are sufficiently difficult for the first violin
that they were removed and replaced by 8th notes, but this also required
the clarinet part be altered so as not to present the similar melodic
material in two different rhythms. The old recording of Oistrakh used
the original triplets.
