Let's be sure we are all talking the same language here. A "needle"
spring, by definition, tapers to a sharp point at the end, and is made of
blued steel for clarinets and saxes. The springs typically found on all
but pro-line instruments are stainless steel wire, or bronze wire for
flutes. They can still hurt, yes, but are usually not quite as dangerous.
