Much thanks to all who responded - I appreciate the comments and
suggestions.

"Regarding try before you buy": the problem in my city is that if a store
orders it for me, I'm obligated to buy it. They won't order it unless there
is a significant down payment. I haven't found anyone who stocks the
clarinet in question - a Vito 7214P plateau. There is approximately a
$300CDN saving to import the horn.

And...if a music store owner spends his time with you letting you try a
horn, please BUY from him or her. Don't THEN go to a cut-rate
website/catalog. It's not fair to the music store owner.

In most cases they cannot even come close to the price from a web/catalog
biz, as these businees get huge discounts from the instrument companies
because they buy in bulk.
