Subj: [kl] Announcing new clarinet works for Joze Kotar
Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 00:32:17 -0400

Hello, Klarinet List.

I am now as much as 5 months behind in
answering E-Mails to some people, because I
have been so busy writing music for the last
few months. Specifically, I wrote 2 new works
for Bass Flute:

"Sonata for Unaccompanied Bass Flute"
(Jan. 2003, 3 mvts., 14 min.)

"Sonata for Bass Flute and Piano"
(May 2003, 4 mvts., 25 min.)
I am transcribing the Solo Part of all 4
movements to:
Standard C Flute, Alto Flute in G;
Oboe, Oboe d'Amore in A, English Horn
in F, Bass Oboe (or Heckelphone);
and even Clarinets in Bb, A and C, so this
work IS a Clarinet Sonata, which I will
soon mail to Professor Joze Kotar.

I just saw the articles about Joze Kotar and
can tell you that I have a CD of his playing and
it is Wonderful! I am honored to be writing a
Series of Works for the Clarinet, that I started
last year. Now that I have those 2 Bass Flute
works completed, I have recently returned to
working on his Sonata with Piano. I'm making
the Scherzo in the Style of Slovenia (somewhat
Bartoky) to honor Professor Kotar, Swing for
Benny Goodman, and then Slovenia again. I
just started the Swing Section last night. And
a year ago, I sketched the Themes of the First
3 Movements, so that they will combine to
make the Triple Fugue for the 4th Movement.

"Sonata No. 1 for (Bb) Clarinet and Piano",
I Allegretto 5' 10"
II Chaconne: Adagio 6' 45"
"Undimmed by Human Tears!"
III Slovenski-Swing-Slovenski
(in progress now) ?' ??"
IV Triple Fugue: Allegro ?' ??"
total playing time: ??' ??"

"Sonata for Unaccompanied Clarinet"
(May 2002, 3 mvts., 16 min.) (He already
has this one.)

"Quintet for Bb Clarinet, Violin, Viola, Cello
and String Bass" (I left off in the middle of
the First Movement. My goal is to strive for
the kind of lyricism of Schubert.)

"Clarinet Sextet"
Scored for the Slovenian Clarinet Sextet, with
Professor Joze Kotar playing Bb Soprano
Clarinet No. 1:

1 E-Flat Sopranino Clarinet,
2 B-Flat Soprano Clarinets,
1 E-Flat Alto Clarinet,
1 B-Flat Bass Clarinet,
1 B-Flat Contra Bass Clarinet.
(I left off composing near the end of the
First Movement, which has a Double Fugue
in it.)

And I am officially announcing that I am
writing a Clarinet Concerto, which I started
last year, but have had to stop writing, to
complete several other new works.

Concerto for Bb Clarinet and small orchestra
(I left off in the First Movement, which has
Hindemith Modal Harmonies, but with a
Mozart lyricism style.)

2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Bassoons;
1 Bb Trumpet, 2 Horns in F,
Euphonium and Tuba;
1 Timpanist,
1 Percussionist (the complete list of
instruments is sill being decided);
Harp;
the Solo Bb Clarinet,
and Strings.

I have to get back to work.
