What works for me is using the old Daniel Bonade staccato method, as outlined
in his Clarinet Compendium". Without going into a "high" or "low" position,
Bonade suggests using a tongue action in which the tongue only comes off the
reed for a very short time. What seems to be most important is that the air
support, or air pessure, is always present: before, during, and after the
staccato note is produced.

The tongue functions like a valve on a water faucet or a fire extiguisher,
letting the water or air escape , and then shutting it off.

Bonade has some really simple and effective staccato exercises in his
Compendium.
