Kevin, The biggest reason I like to have water handy is to rinse the reeds
off after playing before I put them in their case. I do take some
medications that sometimes cause a bit of a dry mouth so it helps to have
the water handy for wetting them down but I've never heard of an optimum
time for soaking them before. I could simply call and ask him for the
correct answer but I was curious to say what others here would say about
this. This bassoon player who came up with the question also insists that
warm water is better for soaking his reeds.
