I have a buffet from about 1901 (with a wrap around octave key) that has a
plastic insert lining almost the full length of the upper joint. Has anyone
heard of this being done? Would this have been done to repair a crack? I
can't image it being originally made this way. It does have a crack that was
repaired by binding and pinning.
