Suggestion: When I do an oil soak, I put the pot of clarinet and oil (I use
90% olive oil, 10% almond oil and some vitamin E) on a warming tray and set
the timer to alternate 12 hours on and 12 hours off.

It's a great idea to do this as a matter of course on horns that have been
mistreated or ignored. I sometimes get too involved in repairing and see
needing to replace a part as a defeat. Thanks for the mind-set repair.

I would add that sometimes a horn can be a mechanical disaster: metal worn
away, keys straightened too many times, etc. Another sign of an instrument
I wouldn't buy is tenons that have been rounded by the horn being put
together carelessly and cause the parts to "rock" to the point where new
corks won't make a difference.
