Yes. I was blessed with some incredible players. He was either a sophmore
or junior in high school and already owned three different tubas; had in his
hand offers of 100% scholarships to a half dozen universities, with more
showing up on his doorstep every day. Interestingly, he wanted either
Julliard or Eastman, but had started school a couple of years early -- or
in some way, finished high school at 16. The parents said no to that
distance, so he picked one of the better university music departments
in the area to attend -- fully intending to xfer when he came of age. <g>

I probably wouldn't have done it, had it not been for the pic's sudden
misfortune. But it came out nice and was fun. I've done it with pic and
<shudder> 6 pics one time!

We have a lot of good bands here that produce good marching shows
(I understand the overall position of many on the list about marching
bands.) When I was teaching, I always had a strong WW section
and always included a section in the show to feature them. And they
can be heard. Last year, one band did the Gershwin, and the solo
clarinet stood on a platform about 10 feet tall, right in the middle
of the field, surrounded by dancers & flags. He did the gliss very
nice.
