I actually had a B-45 that was wonderful to play on that I had for at =
least
20 years. It was my "Old Faithful" - I could play any sort of music =
with
it. I had other mouthpieces, but none of them were as flexible for me =
as
that B-45. It wasn't necessarily the *best* mouthpiece I had for a
particular style, but it was awesome for times when I had to switch =
styles
quickly.

It broke a couple of years ago and I wanted to replace it, but I tried a
dozen different B-45s and couldn't find a single one that even came =
close.
In fact, they weren't even close to consistent with each other. Either
their manufacturing QA has gone downhill extensively or I simply got =
very
lucky when I got the first one.

BTW...I have nothing against VanDoren. I like the 5RV Lyre...and I =
played on
a B44 bass clarinet mouthpiece (heavily modified by a great craftsman) =

many years.

I just don't particularly like the B-45 and the damn things are =
everywhere!
