I don't know either, but I agree with her. My own experience with B45's is
that (for me), they are stuffy, resistant, and inflexible in the tuning
department.

While the 45/1000ths (hope I have the ratio right, I'm dead tired) tip
opening is middle-of-the-road for experienced hands, I prefer a 5RV or 5RV
lyre for a student these days. Little more forgiving in most cases. 5RV L
has a .42 (.042?) opening, which is part of the issue. However, my usual MP
is a Marcellus M13, which I believe is a .044 opening, so there's far more
to it than the opening - it's rail thickness, chamber size, and a heaping
helping of that old black magic.
