I searched this a bit on the archives, but I still have a few
questions regarding flutter tongueing. In a piece I am learning to play, by
Bergamo, there are lengthy sections involving flutter tongueing. I am one
of those special few who cannot roll their R's. I do know of a choir
teacher who can teach her students a technique for learning, and am planning
on contacting her. What I do in these flutter tongueing sections is
vocalize in the back of my throat. This takes a lot more air than regular
flutter tongueing (my teacher and I held an experiment) and requires a much
more open embouchure, which explains why I find it easier on saxophone. My
final point is: has anybody on the list learned to roll their R's without
any previous experience? Or do they have any techniques for vocalizing with
the back of the throat?

Thank You.
