Nanci, I didn't mean to imply that a reed has to look perfect to sound
great. I'm speaking of those reeds that help one produce that "perfect"
sound. You're right that I would never know if your reed was cracked or
chipped by listening to your sound. I would know, however, if it didn't
sound good and in my experience, those people who insist that it doesn't
make any difference and will play on any reed that produces sound =
(whether
good or bad because they truly can't tell the difference or don't care). =
I
have also managed to produce fairly good sounds on slightly cracked or
chipped reeds-sometimes much better sound than I get with a poor reed =
that
looks perfect. It all in the sound and that's what counts. I'd rather =
play
on a chipped reed that sounds good than on one that doesn't allow me to
produce a good tone. (unless I'm in civic band and can't hear myself =
play
anyway. LOL)=20
