Christy--
Based on her e-mails, and my personal experiences over the past 30 years in
numerous groups, I fro one DO believe that at the very least, Rebecca has an
attitude problem, and needs to modify her views. There is no question that
students need opportunities to grow...I switched from sax to clarinet in the
10th grade, but had to earn my positions in both the Wind Ensemble and
Orchestra. From my perspective, Rebecca is only looking at her own needs
and wants, and is not considering the director's needs or the needs of the
group.
An attitude adjustment is definitely in order!

Rebecca, I'm sure this isn't true at all but in your e-mails one does get
the impression you have a bit of a "spoiled brat" type attitude sometimes. I
don't know if it's just the way you write or if you really are this way in
person but when you say you've been spending a year trying to "make" your
band director allow you to play Eb clarinet you sound extremely
manipulative. Could this be what your band director may be objecting to? As
I tell my son, "one catches far more flies with honey than they do with
vinegar."
