Who said that I don't "accept that the Eb is a lovely instrument"? There
were two points that I was trying to make: 1) that Eb clarinets do not fit
the timbre for marching bands, regardless of what size they are, and 2) that
woodwind players aren't "required" to do anything else that does not involve
woodwind playing in marching band. I have nothing against an Eb clarinet in
a wind ensemble, orchestra, or any small chamber ensembles. I agree with
Jimmy that it would be hard for an Eb clarinet to be heard over several
brass players, but I do not agree with him that most woodwind players are
required to switch to other things. The only reason why I'm not marching
clarinet is because I was chosen to be drum major, which I sought out as an
oppurtunity to expand my leadership and conducting skills. But the position
wasn't open to just woodwind players, anyone in the band could have been
drum major, just like anyone in the band could do colorguard.

I think I'm going to crawl into that cave that Nancy made awhile ago (or was
it a hole???)
