While I am not aware of intentional lacquering of the bore of the
clarinet, I know of some well-known repair people who routinely wax the
bore of a clarinet when overhauling it. This applies to granadilla
instruments as well as others. The theory, backed up by their
experience, is that sound waves within the instrument behave very
differently if the bore is smooth as opposed to rough.
