As others have said, Amati from Kraslice is a Czech manufacturer. I
spend quite a lot of time in Prague (tough job, but someone has to do
it) and recently tried out one of their top range instruments. I'd say
that they are generally known for "student" instruments, not in the top
league, and the Czech professionals that I know use Buffet, Leblanc or
Hammerschmidt. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this instrument.
It would have made a good intermediate model, with some features of top
models; nice silver plated keywork, good tone and even response. And
extremely good value, about $600. In the "worth a look" category for an
intermediate; of course, I only tried one so have no idea of
consistency. They also make bass clts but I haven't tried one.

>A pupil of mine had yesterday a "new" instrument with him. We had to
use a
magnifying glass to see the make, probably it said "Amati". Underneath
was
stamped something we figured to be KaasL E. What was clearly readable
was
the number: 3538 Lb.

>Can anyone on this list give me some information about Amati, and maybe
by
the number also say, in which year the horn was built?
