Take it out of the whiskey and try it now. You will be surprised at how
much you are affected by the thorough whiskey soaking. The best way to do
this soaking procedure is to do it on the job. Place a small amount of the
best whiskey you can find into your oral cavity. Swallow and immediately
lick your reed. The reed will be sterilized by the chemical properties of
the whiskey thereby preventing any accumulation of live biomass. This will
result in a maintenance of the original specific gravity of the cane and
its ability to fully flex under the most subtle or forceful of wind
applications thereby allowing you produce any desired tone quality and
articulation response. I recommend this method of reed preservation as, I
am sure, do many other of my brethren.
