In regards to reeds, I swear some of us have much more sensitive ears than
others do. I'm one of those who is very picky about my reeds and I have a
particular sound I'm listening for when choosing them and working on them.
If that sound doesn't come out of that clarinet, that reed is definitely out
at that time. Now that doesn't mean I can't use that same reed on another
day in different weather conditions or with a different mouthpiece or a
little adjustment, but I think I've mentioned before on this line that I've
never heard great tone from one of those people who slaps any piece of wood
on the mouthpiece and plays it no matter what, except on those occasions
when they've gotten lucky. There is a big difference and I can't figure out
why some can't seem to hear the difference or is it that they just don't
care? There are times that I don't have a reed that sounds like the perfect
one and it drives me crazy to play on one of those if I have no other
choice. Christy
