None of the teachers I have had has ever said anything either way, and
certainly the first two (both of whom I was with a number of years)
would have watched me take my mouthpiece out of the case and place it -
WITH REED ATTACHED FROM THE LAST TIME I PLAYED - on the instrument.

I'm pleased to see that I'm not the only one to question the reed
religion! Thank you Tony (who started it), Nancy, Sue and Rebecca - and
anyone else who has posted after Rebecca)

All of the private teachers I have had have made such a huge deal out of

rotating reeds. It has driven me batty. I would get a box and rotate all
of
them and some would never EVER play good and others were wonderful from
the
first second. Then I started to pretend to rotate my reeds when I would
just
go through the box, pick the ones that play easily and play on those. I
don't think it takes an expert to figure this out, because I am
certainly
not one. I think it may take a bit of a rebel to though because you are
doing just the thing your teacher tells you not to do. I do have a fancy

reed case though:)

I have a good question too. Does anyone actually buy the Vandoren "hand
select" reeds? I noticed they cost 10 dollars more. Are these supposed
to be
hand picked? How on earth do they select these?

BTW, Nancy, your post was nicely said! I printed your post and some
other
posts and I am going to give them to my ex-private teacher who yelled at
me
for using the same reed two lessons in a row. He made me draw little
pictures on my reeds with markers:-/
