Amen to everything, but there is a possible middle ground here - I seem to
have (partly) touched off Reed War XIV with a simple bit of advice to rotate
reeds. Of anal-compulsive reed-sorting, tinkering, numbering, soaking in
Windex, etc. I have said nothing. My entire scheme has been that any
instrument I play that requires a different reed size, I invest in the
cheapest plastic 4-reed holder I can find, and I play different ones in
(roughly) rotation. For the record, I am also of the "play-or-die" school,
and I don't consider this to be any contradiction with the idea of keeping
more than one reed around that you've played before, in the event that one
of them gets chipped, warped, etc.
