Dear Annie,
The Ireland Fantasy Sonata was written by John Ireland, I think it was written for Jack Thurston. Anyone know?

I don't know how grades in England compare with America but you would have to say that it would certainly be in the highest grade.

It is a very satisfying piece to play, very accessible for performer and audience, musically. Explores many emotions.

It starts with a mezzopiano high F. This makes it a tricky start, I often think it would be much easier playing it PP, just lightly breathing onto the note. Yet, he wanted mp, giving more room to bump the note.

Please note that the piano part is quite substantial, but the investment of time by both players is well worth it.

Kind regards
Martin
PS it is published by Boosey and Hawkes
