my section to "check your reed!!". How can I tell when I should get a new
reed? I live in Northern Ohio, in case the temperature, humidity, etc
matter.

No it is not. You should have several reeds that you rotate through them.
i.e. use a different reed each day.

You should have at least 5 reeds. I prefer to rotate through an entire box
of 10.

Your reeds will last much longer that way. That is to say rotating 10
reeds, they will last more than 10 times longer than one reed.

Also reeds do deteriorate over time and your sound deteriorates with it.
