Hey Guys! We have concert bands too!!!

In all seriousness I suggest that you try some of the smaller companies.
I know that ASV have a cracking recording of the Holst and Vaughan
Williams suites and I think that Brymer is somewhere in the band - I'm
at the office so can't check! It follows that there are seriously good
recordings over here. As you would expect of course!

There are some very enterprising small labels over here (Naxos is
another) who tend to concentrate on less well known stuff. Naxos is
great as they are incredibly cheap - under five pounds which here is
less than a third of a full price CD - for new recordings. The "catch"
is that they don't use big names - on the other hand younger players
often bring a fresh and lively look to music that some of the bigger
groups can lack.

Brass band music is popular here - but more in the north and really only
seriously by those ex-coal mining areas (OT - the mines are gone
courtesy of the Iron Lady, but the Bands - like Grimethorpe - were too
proud of their tradition to give up. Good for them - even if they are
brass players!!!)

Me neither. Apparently Concert/Symphonic Band recordings are far and few
between. Maybe there's a small company in England or Europe, but that's
liable to be Brass Band.
