Just for the record,
I use the VanDoren and the Reedmate cases, both with humidifier, and I think
they work fine. It somehow make sense to me that keeping the reed slightly
hydrated (not wet) will help it keep stable. I enjoy taking them from the
container and hardly having to moisten them to play. My reeds seem to last a
long time, though it is not my habit to keep them for years. I have resolved
to not form emotional attachments with them, aside from spending 2 or 3 short
sessions over as many days to break them in and polish them. And I seem to
get some use from every one in a box, at least as a practice reed.
For the record: I live in a drier climate than anyone else has mentioned
(inland Southern California), and for the record, I haven't noticed anyone
else ever using one of these cases....
