Dan,

As a dual Canadian-US citizen living in Canada near the US border I can
sympathise with you. The abolutely INSANE rules governing the movement of
goods and people accross our border is shockingly inconsistent, arbitrary,
unfair and down-right stupid. All of us who live near the border can site
many examples of obsurd laws and policies enforced by the uniformed
parasites "protecting" our borders. Our two nations supposedly have a "Free
Trade" agreement. Around here the words "Free Trade" will get you an
automatic laugh.

The first half of the Twentieth Century was dominated by idiotic European
tribal wars. Now their borders have practically dissapeared while the
Canada-US border remains mired in Nineteenth Century mud. (The US and
Canada haven't had a respecable war since 1812!) The US is currently
obsessed with terrorism. Canada, as ever, is hung up on its tedious
"national sovereignty complex." Both sides accuse the other of unfair
subsidies and trade practices. Border issues usually take YEARS to resolve,
if ever. Citizens and business on both sides suffer endlessly.

Dan, your bassethorn problem is absolutely nothing compared to the
cross-border crap I've experienced. Consider yourself lucky!

Ed Maurey
