After posting earlier about loving my Yamaha, I checked out
the reviews at W&B - the first reviewer here agrees that
this is not just a beginner's instrument - great for others,
also. I especially agree w/him regarding the precise feel
and clean mechanisms, & the amazing sound for the price.
Interesting that he finds the YCL20 brighter w/more
projection than its replacement, the YCL250 (I own the YCL20).
Has anyone else compared these 2 models side by side, & if
so, what are your thoughts?
Here's the link if you'd like to check out the reviews:

Here is an interesting thread from a newsgroup if you would
like to read more about many folks (including pros) liking
plastic clarinets:

And even more! (Or do your own google search - if you are
like me, you end up reading for hours!)

I had said before that I really wish that the manufacturers
would abandon the "band, student, beginner" label on these
instruments - calling them "plastic models" also sounds
cheap & inferior - perhaps just call them (as I like to)
their "ABS Resin" models - that sounds much better! (Tell
someone who is not knowledgeable about clarinets that you
have a plastic instrument, & they assume it's a kiddie toy,
& would never know that it lists for $700!)
(On a side note, as I have a special nostalgic place in my
heart for Buffet, as they were mostly what my father played,
& what I played in school, & of course because of their
history & reputation, I so wish they would produce a better
ABS model, but for now I have to say that the Yamaha is a
much better investment.)
