Christy,

I *highly* recommend the Fobes Eb mouthpieces. I use a "San
Francisco" model, but you might also want to try his "Nova"
model, which has the same facing as the San Francisco, but is
somewhat less expensive.

Another possibility would be looking into Eb mouthpieces that
are on Babbitt blanks, instead of Zinner blanks. Although I
believe Clark's mouthpieces are Zinner blanks, and are REALLY
wonderful for Eb, most of the other Zinner blank models from
other makers I have played left me flat (quite literally) in the
upper register. I don't want to work any harder in the upper
register than I have to. The Babbitt blank Eb mouthpieces seemed
so much better in the stratosphere for pitch and for color. I
unfortunately haven't been able to find a Babbitt blank
mouthpiece recently since I bought my Eb clarinet in 2001. Not
that I am looking to replace my Fobes anyway, since it works so
well.

If you are looking at mouthpieces, might I also suggest one of
Clark Fobes' or Guy Chadash's Eb barrels? Both of these barrels
really increase the clarity and color spectrum of the
instrument. The color of the Eb's sound is something I think
MOST Eb players can improve on, regardless of their technique
and pitch. You don't HAVE to sound like a cat in a blender to
play Eb!

Meow!

Hope this helps...
