Hi;

I appreciate all the replies I received. A couple suggested the use of
alternate site testing (AST) for blood sugars, i.e arm instead of fingers.
First off, AST is not the complete replacement for finger testing - it has
some restrictions, and the finger test is the definitive indicator. The
other problem is that I've been finger testing 4 times a day since 1985 and
there is a lot of scar tissue on the pads of my fingers.

Regards, Bob

Bob, (just got the posting so sorry for the delayed reply, Klarinet changed
the headers so my spam program filtered them out on April 30th till today)

The OneTouch Ultra Blood Sugar tester does have the arm as an option but the
instructions do say that the reading will not pick up sudden sugar changes
at all as well as the finger method. I just was diagnosed with Diabetes
this past Tuesday, so a complete rookie with this stuff, but as a
Clarinetist, I use the right thumb underside (not the finger print area, but
the opposite side of the thumb to what would contact the thumb rest near the
nail. It's fleshy and wouldn't cause any Clarinet Problems. I'm checking 3
times a day currently.
