But perhaps the other side of the coin is that this is the only concertante
work Mozart wrote for the clarinet (the other solo pieces are chamber
works), so it's possible he would push the envelope somewhat compared to
other pieces for the instrument.

Your points about Sussmayr's knowledge of the clarinet are well-made, but
surely there is a benefit in looking at what other composers (not just
Sussmayr) were writing for the instrument, to see what kind of possibilities
might be expected of soloists of the time.

I agree with you that the high G is suspect, but I'm not convinced that it's
*wrong*. ;-)
