Just adding to the recommendation of the Yamaha as a great student
horn esp. for its clear un-stuffed sound. The other negative I
haven't seen mentioned is that the clasps on the cases often seem to
stop holding after a year or two of playing--nothing that a row of
felt around the edge of the case won't fix, but I've already seen two
plastic Yamahas fall out of their cases because the clasps gave out
while it was being carried.

Makes quite a handy mini-travel case once it's repaired. Have carried
much nicer instruments in it several times when I was out of space in
my carry-on bags. Reduces theft likelihood slightly as well, I'd
imagine.
