Darius Milhaud spent the years of the second world war in the US, and
taught at a beautiful women's college very near to where I am, Mills
College in Oakland, CA. I had to got there a few years ago to examine
and appraise a Mozart manuscript they own (It was worth a lot of money),
and while there saw that they had a great deal of Milhaud memorabilia.
Immediately after the war, I believe he went back to France.

Wonderful, funny composer. His suite for clarinet, violin, and piano is
a terrific piece, as is his wind quintet, "The Hearth of King René" and
his wonderful "Suite Francaise" for band.
