Dear listmembers,

Nice to hear Mr Leeson being exited over a concert I like very much: =
how
beautiful music can be -- how wonderful it is that nowadays concerts can =
be
heard and reached to all people in the world due to the recording
possibilities and we can share our feelings (for instance) about those
recordings by Internet!=20

I am a Berlin Phil Groupy, so -- naturally -- I have seen this openair
(life) concert life on television (we in The Netherlands recieve the =
German
television broadcasts) and taped it. This socalled Waldb=FChne concert =
is held
yearly in June. The audience is not "the normal classical audience": =
they
are picknicking and "talking" during the concert and very often it is
raining. Not that optimal circumstances you would think for playing (and
recording)...=20
I have that particular concert Mr Leeson saw on video and it=B4s indeed =
"one
of those concerts"! The sometimes "overacting" mr Levine conducts "his"
Berlin Phil wonderfully! Mr Ben Heppner carries you (and the audience) =
away
in the emotions of the (German) music.
I wasn=B4t that flabbergasted as Mr Leeson was, because this is -- IMHO =
--
what you can expect when watching/listening to the BPO! :-) But, again,
these are the concerts wich are worthwhile being taped for watching over =
and
over again in your life.

I hope PBS televison will treat you folks in US off A with many, many =
more
BPO concerts!!!
=20
Here in Europe the DVD of that concert (any many other Waldb=FChne and =
for
instance so called European Concerts -- every may 1st) is available on =
the
label TDK (please, try to get the Beethoven Symphonies, recorded live in
2002 with Claudio Abbado and the BPO... Now I was really =
flabbergasted!!!):=20

Tonight on PBS tv, I heard a concert by the Berlin Phil conducted by=20
James Levine with tenor solosit Ben Hepner. It was a concert entirely=20
of German music and it was so magnificently played that I don't remember =

hearing anything like it in the past.

I do hope that some other members of this list heard it and are of the=20
same opinion. I was left flabbergasted by the show.
