Subj: [kl] Molter Clarinet concertos
Date: Sun, 4 May 2003 18:01:38 -0400

Our local NPR station likes to play the Molter clarinet concertos
frequently. They always sound like they're played on a very short
clarinet - at least Eb, maybe D or higher - but while the announcers
always say which concerto and in which key, they never say anything
about which clarinet (today it was Paul Meyer playing). The timbre
makes it obvious it wasn't a Bb; can anyone offer some information on
these concertos? The style is Baroque-ish, and the effect is of a
trumpet playing lots of notes very high, which I guess was the original
application of the clarinet. I don't know anything about Molter, though.
